Chico ART Festival - May 12 & 13, 2023

3D Printer Demo

Last minute addition, a 3D Printer Demo, at the Chico ART Festival this Friday, May 12 (4-8pm) and Saturday, May 13 (10am-5pm) on the 6 acres campus of St John’s Episcopal Church on Floral Avenue:

Christian Davila, a Chico artist and one of the tech from the Butte College Makerspaces will bring her 3D printer and demonstrate how it works. I saw her at the Chico Art Center Block Party event last Sunday. It was fascinating to go by and watch the process.

In her demo she printed an articulated shimmering variegated slug made out of PLA. That’s poly lactic acid, a new thermoplastic material made out of organic material that’s biodegradable and made in the USA. It takes 5 hours to print a slug and it comes out completely finished with all the articulations. Amazing. She will teach an intro class to the Makerspaces this summer. It should be interesting!
