“Art at the Matador” is moving to Floral Ave, and changing its name to “Art on Floral”, and in the interest of public welfare, we are postponing the show until Mother’s Day weekend of 2022.
This event started 10 years ago as the Art Fiesta. Then it was renamed Art at the Matador as it was held every year at the historic Matador Motel on the Esplanade in Chico California. Then, because of the pandemic and in the interest of public welfare, we must once again postpone this event until May 6 and 7 of next year. Hopefully, by then we will be able to celebrate all together as a community the return of the arts face to face and in person.
2022 will see a rebirth of the Art on Floral with the goal of uniting artists, art organizations, and the public within a beautiful, serene oasis. This festival fosters the awareness that a strong arts community makes Chico a better place in which to live.
St John’s Episcopal Church, with its extensive grounds and conference facility will offer us, and our attendees, a serene oasis with beautiful gardens to meander through, a playground, plus plenty of space for our outdoor booths, a large conference hall to host our indoor booths, a stage for our live music entertainment, plenty of parking, and even a labyrinth to walk through.
This two-day, one stop, ART Expo has three aims: to give local artists a space of their own from which to share their visions; to educate the public about the variety and value of art in Chico; and to encourage an appreciation of the Chico community – past and present. We will have booths for selected community organizations promoting the community well being and its art.
Local artists will transform their spaces into imaginative galleries open to the public. We will showcase live music and local talents. This event is a joyous event, free, and family friendly with live music, art demos, fun activities for kids, a penny-stamping machine, fairy doors tour, food and margaritas, and several cantinas.
ChiVAA’s aim in organizing and sponsoring the Art at the Matador is to educate the public in the quality and variety of creativity of the Chico Visual Arts and Performing Arts Communities. ChiVAA also want to promote collecting original art with the goal of every home having at least one original art piece by a local artist. The Art at the Matador is a great way to connect with many of the artists in the area.
