The St John’s Episcopal Church at 2341 Floral Ave (close to the corner of East Ave) welcomes the Art at the Matador for our 10th anniversary show. We are moving to Floral and changing our name!
This event started 10 years ago as the Art Fiesta. Then it was renamed Art at the Matador as it has been held every year at the historic Matador Motel on the Esplanade in Chico California. Due to continued hardship due to the Camp Fire, the Matador Motel can no longer host our show, so we are moving to a new venue at 2341 Floral Avenue, and the Art at the Matador will get renamed as ART on FLORAL.
St John’s extensive grounds and conference facility will offer us, and our attendees, a serene oasis with beautiful gardens to meander through, a playground, plus plenty of space for our outdoor booths, a large conference hall to host our indoor booths, a stage for our live music entertainment, plenty of parking, lawns for the Fire dancers, and even a labyrinth to walk through.
This two-day, one stop, ART Expo has three aims: to give local artists a space of their own from which to share their visions; to educate the public about the variety and value of art in Chico; and to encourage an appreciation of the Chico vecino neighborhood – past and present.
This two-day, one stop, ART Expo has three aims: to give local artists a space of their own from which to share their visions; to educate the public about the variety and value of art in Chico; and to encourage an appreciation of the Chico community – past and present. We will have booths for selected community organizations promoting the community well being and its art.
Local artists will transform their spaces into imaginative galleries open to the public. We will showcase live music and local talents. This event is a joyous event, free, and family friendly with live music, art demos, fun activities for kids, a penny-stamping machine, fire dancing, fairy doors tour, food and margaritas, and a cantina.
Interested in exhibiting this year? Stay tuned – the prospectus are coming out soon!
ChiVAA’s aim in organizing and sponsoring the Art at the Matador is to educate the public in the quality and variety of creativity of the Chico Visual Arts and Performing Arts Communities. ChiVAA also want to promote collecting original art with the goal of every home having at least one original art piece by a local artist. The Art at the Matador is a great way to connect with many of the artists in the area.
