The Chico ART Festival, formerly Art at the Matador, moved to Floral Avenue in 2022. The 2022 Chico ART Festival was a success. We thank all the art patrons who came to the festival, and the artists and musicians who participated. This year was a festive grand reopening of this show. We all needed a great outdoor ART party!

This event is in its 10 year and was started as the Art Fiesta. Then it was renamed Art at the Matador as it was held at the historic Matador Motel on the Esplanade in Chico California. Over 2000 people attended our last event in 2018. The 2019-2021 events were cancelled due to disruptions from the Camp Fire and the Covid pandemic. The 2022 event was outdoor only due to continuing concerns over Covid transmissions. We may include an indoor portion to the show in 2023, depending on the situation with the pandemic by then.

2022 saw a rebirth of this event with its name change to Chico Art Festival, and with moving to the Floral Avenue location, all with the goal of uniting artists, art organizations, and the public within a beautiful, serene oasis. This festival fosters the awareness that a strong arts community makes Chico a better place in which to live.

St John’s Episcopal Church, with its extensive grounds and conference facility offer us, and our attendees, a serene oasis with beautiful gardens to meander through, a playground, plus plenty of space for our outdoor booths, a large outdoor tent for our live music entertainment, plenty of parking, and even a labyrinth to walk through.

Our two-day, one-stop Art Expo has four goals: to showcase our local artists, to promote Chico as an arts destination center, to educate the public about the variety and value of art in our community, and to throw a really great Chico-style party.

Local artists transform their spaces into imaginative galleries open to the public. In addition, we also have booths for selected community organizations promoting the community well being and its art. We showcase live music and local talents. This is a joyous event, free, and family friendly with live music, art demos, fun activities for kids, food trucks and margaritas.

Save the dates – May 12 & 13, 2023! Mark your calendar for participation in a spirit renewing art festival on Mother’s Day weekend of 2023.
